Cameras to become more expensive too: Canon plans to shift rising costs onto customers

Canon plans to raise prices on its products starting in 2027 to offset the increasing costs of memory and other components.

The company does not expect procurement prices to decrease next year and has not yet disclosed which models, markets, or the extent of the price increases.

Canon announced this during a Q&A session following its quarterly report. The printing equipment and camera divisions faced component shortages, but thanks to preemptive measures, the company avoided a significant impact of the shortage on their operations. However, Canon expects procurement costs to rise throughout 2027.

The company has already adjusted product prices but has not been able to fully offset the increased expenses. With further adjustments, Canon intends to consider potential reductions in sales volumes and seek a balance between them and profitability.

In the fourth quarter, the operating profitability of the Imaging segment is forecasted to decline significantly compared to the same period last year. The indicator will be affected by rising memory costs, increased expenses due to the situation in the Middle East, and a high comparison base formed by strong sales of network cameras a year earlier. Due to the component shortage, Canon has also lowered its sales plan for compact cameras, although it considers the problem temporary and expects a gradual improvement in the situation.
