Uzbekistan has officially launched the Google Pay contactless payment service. The announcement of the payment system was made by Marcin Krasuski, a representative of Google Cloud, during his speech at the panel session "Digital Technologies" in Samarkand. The session was organized as part of the diplomatic and business forum in the "C5+1" format, which included diplomats and business representatives from the U.S. and Central Asian countries.
The arrival of the international infrastructure resulted from comprehensive technical and regulatory preparation. Earlier, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, in collaboration with commercial financial institutions and national operators Humo and Uzcard, conducted extensive work on card tokenization. The regulator's goal was to create a universal environment supporting both global card systems Visa and Mastercard and local payment solutions.
