BYD now employs more staff than Toyota, GM, Ford, and Tesla combined
Workforce exceeds 1.02 million people
BYD's workforce has exceeded 1.02 million employees, stated company chairman Wang Chuanfu at a China Society of Automotive Engineers conference. This surpasses the combined staff of Toyota, GM, Ford, and Tesla.
The figure includes not only automotive divisions but also battery production, microchips, motors, energy storage systems, railway equipment, and electronics for other brands. According to Wang Chuanfu, such vertical integration has been the foundation of BYD's growth from a battery manufacturer to one of the largest new energy vehicle brands.
From January to September 2026, BYD sold 3,131,576 vehicles—a 3.9% decrease year-on-year. Meanwhile, international sales increased, and the company's facilities in Thailand, Brazil, and Hungary began entering the market.
